Her brightness stood out on the Moon and it was all the more obvious that no one knew who she was. Certainly foreign but even that couldn’t be pinned down. A Martian might have red hair or a Venusian orange or strawberry blonde, but no one had pure bubblegum pink.
The princess, beloved daughter of Queen Pax and a peaceful kingdom, wasn’t much afraid of anything and was perfectly willing to approach her. The strange young woman was leaning on an earthshine-viewing bridge in the gardens chewing on a rolled up slip of paper, the end of which glowed with embers.
“So who are ya? I haven’t seen you around.”
“I’m not here for a reason, just not going home for a while yet.” For a teenager that was reasonably demure compared to “not going home ever.”
“Do you have a name then?”
“Serenity.”
“Go figure. That’s mine too.” They looked bizarrely alike now that she noticed it. Same hairstyle and cut of gossamer layers of long dress, differing only that one was shining white and the other shocking pink.
“There’s not a law against being out here right? Or a war with Metallia on? I wasn’t aiming so carefully.”
“No. Who?”
“Not no… here then. Doesn’t matter.” She breathed out a cloud of smoke that she had inhaled from the burning paper.
“Mind me staying out here? My mother doesn’t need an extra distraction hanging around in court.”
“Mm, I get that. Want one, other other Serenity?”
She must be mistaking her for someone not herself, the “other Serenity,” the princess of the kingdom. “Sure.” She took a roll of paper, which the other maiden lit with a snap of a little box with a fire spell in it. She breathed in and coughed uproariously.
