I don't feel like actually getting around to giving my full analysis of why I hate Lian Hearn's writing, but I do. A lot.

Endymion was scared to move from his mother’s house to his father’s when he reached the proper age. His father’s house was huge and foreboding and full of grim-faced ministers and priests. He’d be lost within a minute and no one would find him for days.
At least on his own he would. The boy he had been given, Kunzite, knew everything about the palace and was always with him, so he never had the opportunity.
The other youth looked strongly like an older, stronger version of Endymion and even the boy was worldly enough to suspect he was an illegitimate son.
“You look more like the prince than I do.”
“Of course not, Master.” Kunzite did not lie, but only because no one would have bothered with Endymion as a bodyguard.
