Warning:
This is an angry and bitter post so if you are not up to it, over the show or are OK with Michaels death, maybe you should stop reading now. I need to get it out of my system in order to find my inner positive self again that I am sure is still there somewhere deep down.
Nice family photos! Sand, sun, cheesy matching outfits...we could

No. Why because we have a different opinion? I didn't want impose my bitter rant on you because I know you feel very differently.
I can not address all because my head is spinning now but a couple of things stood out.
I think my take on death, religion and mourning has very much influenced my hate for this ending and maybe that is why I don't get it. *lightbulb moment* Religion is never part of my thinking and though I always got a lot of religious symbolism from the show. Michael as the one who sacrifices himself I never thought of it literary.
For me there is no life after death so he is gone for me and when you mourn a person in that way you have to deal with the fact that you never going to see them again and that is a horrible aspect and I speak from experience not once but several times. I keep forgetting that people who are religious will see that fundamentally differently, including the writers.
A child is never a consolation prize, and if you're looking for the hope and faith that ( ... )

This is very interesting. I am not an overly religious person, but I do believe in God and an afterlife. Something I have always found comforting is that I will see that loved one again, and it's just like biding time. Almost like they have gone on a long trip. For me, this feeling was not immidiate, but after a while it developed and it is very comforting.

I think that makes a lot of difference and sense because one of the most difficult things for me, as an Atheist, is the finality of death and that colors how I see Michael's death as well.

My opinion differs from yours but I still sympathize with what you wrote. The thing that kills me is not how the show ended (even though it made me sad) but how much it has made my flist hurt because of it.
Damn you stupid writers!

*hugs you Mo*
oh and.. even though you came back out with a *rant*, its still nice to see you in your LJ. *g*

I feel better for the ranting.
I appreciate the sympathising and I think that some people already moved on, including yourself but I am always the one to hang on while everybody leaves. Story of my life.

Did HIAB teach them nothing? Obviously not
No it is shocking isn't it? If anything is clear from all of this it is that they don't care what the fans want and even like to push it a bit further.
I have a difficult dilemma going on though because I think writers are free to write what they want and I also think that letting fans dictate the writing is walking a fine line but to me they manipulated us and that annoys the hell out of me. Also they have this wannabee daring and edgy thing going on and letting the villain live and the hero die is both done before and way better and I don't think this is the kind of show to do it.
The main character is so loved and so central to the story that they should have let him live IMO. They could have done a brilliant fake-out. I also think this is really stupid because when the buzz wears of we still have death Michael and with that they totally changed the legacy of the show for many fans.

It is not just here Katie, there is a lot of anger and bitterness on several places, especially in the Went fandom. So if they would pull their heads out of their own asses the would see how HAPPY everybody is. *snorts*

I am still angry. I am still incredibly sad. I am still in denial.
That sums up pretty much how I feel as well but you already knew that.
Also like you I suspect that a lot of behind-the-scene politics played into a lot of on-set and creative decision making and the angle that Michael is guilty but the others can have a great life because he sacrificed himself is a lot of bollocks as far as I am concerned. Mahone killed the brothers dad FFS, Kellerman killed innocent people in cold blood before he redeemed himself and even Linc's hands are not clean.
Michael so obviously wanted his happy ending with Sara and their child doesn't count, because according to TPTB he wouldn't have been able to live with all the blood on his hands and wouldn't have minded dying at all, HONEST.
This is so true and call me a stupid fangirl but I think he wanted to live desperately and of course the past would have bothered him but I think he still ( ... )
