My anti-shampoo campaign continues. I am on day 8 or 9, sources say, and my hair currently looks like this:
I feel suspicious, because I love the way it feels. I could be wrong, but it also looks shinier than usual. The internet says that these good hair days will come and go, sometimes driving me very close to the edge of just shaving my head. Thus far, though, I've come across nothing worse than what I deal with after having not washed my hair for four or five days (internet gods, please do not smite me for admitting that, for I'm not gross! I shower! I just didn't always shampoo my hair). My hair tends to not be very greasy in the first place, and suffers mostly from dryness if it's suffering from anything.
I've continued to use my mixtures of baking soda and apple cider vinegar discussed a post or two back. They're in water bottles that I keep with me in the shower. I have no idea if I'm using the one cup of each mixture as recommended, since I just squeeze it onto my head, but it seems to be working. Today I felt, for the first time, that 'slippery' feeling when I used the baking soda. It almost feels similar to the sensation of how your hair feels with conditioner on it, but that's the closest metaphor I've been able to come up with. I don't like how my hair feels when it's wet in the shower. That part of shampoo I do miss.
I read online that if you're doing this method, you really need to scrub your scalp, but not using nails. So I massaged and massaged my whole head, especially focusing on the crown and temples, where I've had the most oil problems. I massaged in the baking soda and the vinegar, and then massaged as I rinsed both out independently. This seemed to take care of some of the oil problems at the crown of my head, which I feel a lot better about now.
Thus far, the only downsides are that I will get occasional itching (nothing bad), and I think my hair is still transitioning, so I don't get the luxury of perfectly fresh and washed hair after a shower. Otherwise, I really like the results. I did blow dry my hair today, but it seemed to react really well. It also as a sweet smell to it, not the cinnamon I put into the ACV, but just. . . sweet.
So, je l'approve! For now.
