I'm 6 weeks (4 weeks post conception...it's so hard to say w/ such a short cycle & only 9 days between LMP & ovulation, but I guess this makes the most sense...) Maybe I should just lie about my LMP to make things simpler

I hope it stays at a normal level of m/s this time! FWIW, I couldnt take vitamins during any of mine, they definitely made me sick(er). Mine have all come out all right. :)
Good luck finding a MW. I hope you dont have to go to the hospital. Have you tried the Mothering boards for recs?
I've gotten plenty of midwife recs, even found a midwife I like, just not one I can afford. :( I did find an OB group who has midwives in house who do hospital deliveries. (of course they are about 30 miles from my house but...) I may call them tomorrow. Hopefully I will only have to stay w/ an OB office for a few months until our insurance changes in June & *hope* we can get a midwive covered by insurance at least partially. XXXXXXfingers crossedXXXXX
Have you asked any of them if they will work on a sliding scale? Not sure how often this is done and what your situation has to be like, but I know that I've heard of it being done before...
wonder if you can work out $$ with a mw for some other kind of service on your part? or have her just treat you the last few weeks & the birth, with the ob doing the bulk of prenatals?
You might look for vitamins with low iron. Or skip the preante vitamins and get everything you need for more traditional food sources (combined with flinstones for what you can't get enough of). Captain Crunch used to have enough folic acid to float a boat ;)
Other trick, try taking the prenate right before bed and see if that helps stave off the yucks? I'm really crossing everything you find yourself at 20 weeks still waiting for the puking to begin!!
Is there a midwife anywhere in the area covered by your insurance? Is she willing to come to you for the birth? If so, I'd think it would be worth it to haul yourself for appointments, just because now that you've seen what an hb is like, I can't imagine that a hospital birth will suit you.
I seriously doubt we make little enough for a sliding scale to help. We just spend too much on our kids we have to afford it! LOL (but I don't feel right asking them to give up gymnastics, etc so I can have a homebirth). We just didn't plan well for this. We *could* come up w/ the money, it would just stretch us further than DH is comfortable.
The problem with the far away midwives (they are all more than an hour away w/ no traffic) is that I will have to get to them to do prenatals even if they will come to me for a homebirth & if I am feeling sick, I will not be able to drive myself that far or ride in a car that long. I plan to call the OB group w/ midwives today, even though they are a good 45 minutes away from me too. (30 w/ no traffic at all but that would be a RARE occasion!) But it's a good compromise if we can't find a homebirth midwife we can afford.
