Frontloading washer issues?

We got a new frontloading washer over the summer (it's a GE). Anyway, I've noticed our clothes aren't coming out always smelling clean. Particularly DH's sweaty clothes or towels. I've looked things up online. I've started diluting fabric softener if I use it at all. I've started using the detergent the manual recommends... I've done a basket ( Read more... )

Borax. Sprinkle it in on the clothes before you start the cycle and it gets rid of the mildewy smell. White vinegar is also good at removing smells. I'm trying my best to keep my new washer dry so we don't have that problem again!

I'll second the vinegar suggestion!

I'll have to try that. It's weird b/c it's only certain loads of clothes, the dark T shirts for example, that are smelly... but these are the ones that are generally smellier to begin with.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hope it works.

Do you leave the door open when it's not in use? Don't shut it, as the moisture will start to mold/mildew, and that will get in everything.

Yes I leave it open. (BTW, I hate this about front loaders!!) Anyway, the washer itself doesn't smell bad. It's really just certain loads of clothes, usually the smelly ones that just aren't coming out clean. Personally, I'm wondering if this washer actually uses so little water that the water in there is too dirty to properly clean the clothes...

Not feeling too keen on front loaders right now...even though I'm now stuck w/ this one.

Do you have the option of a super rinse cycle?

Hmm.

I dunno, I have a front loader but I think they are different over here. A load takes a LONG time (the program I use most often goes for about 70mins, and there are some almost twice as long!). Everyone who visits say their clothes get cleaner in my machine - and we bought, literally, the cheapest one we could find as we were totally broke on arrival! Go figure. Sorry I can't help!
