Ghost World / old sopranos

what a great movie. not one i'd probably want to watch again, but it was interesting.

i'm also enjoying the first season Sopranos reruns. Meadow and Anthony jr. are so young.

The relationship with Dr. Melfi and Tony is much better the first season than in later seasons.

I liked how Tony felt alive after his brush with death.

Ahh, I'm watching the first season Sopranos episodes too! I bought the DVD set off of E-Bay couple of weeks ago for $40 (including $10 s+h) and it's frustrating that I'm making myself watch only one episode a day. I didn't know Tony had a brush with death. I'm still at the "Boca" episode and I'm just waiting for the part of the season where Tony gets promoted to caporegime. But yea, Anthony Jr. does look really young. Short and squat and all that.

The first episode's definitely a classic.

Haha, yea. What I really love is how Tony Soprano tries to challenge people's misconception of Italian gangsters. "I'm in the waste management business. Everybody immediately assumes you're mobbed up. It's a stereotype. And it's offensive." One of my favorite parts was when Tony gave a mysterious brown box to Dr. Cusamano, and Cusamano freaked out because it probably had something to do with the mob, like heroin or something, when it was really just a box filled with sand.

And I like Michael Imperioli, he's a great actor. Remember how his character was depressed for a while but became happy when he saw his name being mentioned for mob-related indictment in the newspaper?? Hilarious.

Yes, the occasional references to the Godfather movies, and other mob cliche add realism to the series.

I almost felt sorry for the guy when he didn't fit in with Cusamano's golf buddies, but yeah, the box of sand was hilarious!!

Michael Imperioli is great in the series.

i purchased Ghost World a while back, after seeing it for the first time as a rental. It's definately one of those flicks that are interesting to watch...but have to put some significant time in between viewings.

I did find how Tony felt alive again after his brush with death interesting. I am the same way, just not to that extreme. I need challenges and such to keep me going. If things become routine and mundane, life seems to suck.

I guess I was expecting the film to be weirder than it actually was. The relationship with Edna and Seymour was almost believable.

I agree it's nice to get out of routines and try different things, though getting shot at would be extreme!!

I just read a lot about Thora Birch online. I didn't realize she was in Paradise, Parenthood, Alaska, American Beauty, and Anywhere But Here. I'll have to look out for her more often.

Throughout watching ghost world, there were times when I thought she was hot, and other times when she wasn't so hot (looking)...
