Life's been ticking along. Busy times, as April always is. We have everyone's birthdays and Easter thrown in. And this year I had Lisa coming to stay for the ANZAC Day long weekend since John Mayer was in town and he wasn't doing Brisbane. It was really nice to show off the house. We still haven't done the housewarming party because we've been ( Read more... )

By forcing yourself to :)

Not that I can talk - I joined meetup.com I dunno, 6 months ago? And still haven't had the guts to go to any events.

But, there have been things I've had to force myself out of my comfort zone for over the past year. The whole online dating thing for one. Yoga classes. Going to Bali alone. It's not easy. But getting there that first time is the hardest, and then it gets much easier! And either you don't really enjoy it but you're glad you gave it a go, or you love it and you're thrilled you gave it a go!

I'm actually finding myself slowly becoming a bit less shy in general just from repeatedly forcing myself into situations that fill me with anxiety. It's worth it!

Thanks Amy. I know you're right. It's a funny thing. You get to a certain age and you just don't have so many people around. My local friends have all moved away, and I don't have a workplace to have people to drag along to this sort of thing. Which is fine most of the time, because I really do love my own company, but then there are times I wouldn't mind a bit of hand-holding. I don't want to do couple things all the time - Rollerfit is definitely a Lauren solo thing. And who knows. Maybe in time it'd be Lauren and a whole bunch of her new friends kind of thing. I think I'm just going to have to suck it up and make a plan to go next week. You have to call them early so they can bring you some skates if you don't have your own, so once I make that call I'm locked in. I think that's probably a good thing.

Yeah in my case it was all of a sudden, "Wait... where did all my friends without kids go??" and going from having all the "couple" friends to being one of the few remaining single girls!

Good luck! Yes, lock it in. Go. And then post about it, because I'm intrigued! :)

Will do! I actually went to roller skating lessons as an 8 year old and was pretty good back in the day, so it'll be interesting to see whether I've still got any skills!
