Since apparently pregnancy gives everyone but the pregnant person rights to comment, share opinions, tell you what you should and shouldn’t be doing, I thought I would post about some of my recent favorites.

On the topic of kitty litter:

“aren't you supposed to stay away from kitty litter with a bun in the oven?”

OMG -- I don't know how you put up with all that shit. Just think -- there are stupid freaks who go nine months without knowing they are pregnant and their babies turn out FINE. Oh, and the cat thing? It's really only a worry if you have outdoor cats. Jeezaloo -- I remember when I posted that I was excited to have sushi for dinner and a FB friend said -- oh oh, pregnant women aren't supposed to have sushi! Well, fuck me, I better call all the pregnant women in Japan who eat it every day?! Grrr.

Deep breaths. You know what's best for you and women have been having babies for centuries. You and little you will be just fine :)

yup. people are idiots. It never fails to astound me that people assume you're an idiot when you're pregnant, and likely I suppose, when you're also a parent of a baby. Like any of these things were NEWS to me? So tired of people thinking they have license of telling you what to do.

My still all time favorite was my aunt telling you that SHE was going to babysit because she is my godmother. Holy crap I'd rather put my infant child on a plane by herself and send her to you than let my aunt get her hands on her ...

The unsolicited advice gets worse. It may be worse for you since you are a single mom but I had "friends and family" give me all kinds of parenting advice. Now, I often asked for advice and then I accepted everything that came my way. But I have had strangers come up to me and tell me my baby needed to be wearing a hat or a blanket because they would get cold (in July, in VEGAS... really?!?!) Ugh. I found that as I get more secure I get better at brushing the advice off and I act so sure of myself in public (aka: BITCHY) that I don't get it anymore. The last time I can think of being annoyed was on the airplane. Ean has been on an airplane more times in his short life than the average American so I am kinda short with those who try to give me advice on how to help him handle the plane ride. I'm like -- hey I'm a pro at this, thanks ( ... )

yeah, I know people are going to be assholes ... I'm counting on it in fact. I'm saving up my bitchy one-line come backs :)

when I ASK however, I'm getting great advice and answers - I'm not claiming to know everything (or anything for that matter), but if I want to know, then I'll ask - or even, if someone approaches it with "this is what worked for me" instead of "this is what you should do and if you don't then you're wrong" then that's fine. In general, I just hate people. But you know that already.
