obviously, i don't celebrate lent. i just know that people give up something for 40 days and then...lent is over. if someone could explain the point of that, it'd be nice ( Read more... )

Jesus was in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights, fasting and depriving himself and generally contemplating how he was going to allow himself to be crucified for the sins of all humanity....or so the christians believe. As such, giving up something for 40 days is a way to relate to Jesus during that time in a little way, focus on helping others, being less priveledged, etc. Does that make sense ( ... )

hahahha i don't even have an excuse for skipping the 3/4 classes i could have gone to today....i just flat out didn't go

I observed lent last year, and I'm not catholic! It feels good giving something up though that you're really fond of. Although, if you ask me, skipping class isn't something you should plan on doing come Easter like going on facebook was for me last semester.
