Searching for a few good editors-

Are you interested in radical social work? We are looking for a core
collective of between 8-12 people interested in editing and publishing an
anthology of pieces related to “radical social work”, especially ones that
break from the more common Neo-Marxist frame of radical social work
theorizing.

Current thought is to publish the chapters/articles for free as pdfs, and
also approaching small publishing houses about doing a limited print run.
We envision some middle-ground between academic journals and zines in
terms of language accessibility and formality. Articles/Chapters will
hopefully be a mixture of critical theory, case studies, and personal
reflection pieces/anecdotes.

Ideally, the core editorial collective will be made up of a diverse group
of social work practitioners, academics (both students and professors),
and activists that don't necessarily identify as social workers but
interface with the social work profession. We have not made any decisions
about a US-centric focus or not - likely that will be determined by the
makeup of the editorial collective. We expect that the collective will
make decisions based on consensus, though no familiarity with
consensus-based decision making is necessary.

Proposed time frame:

Winter 2008- form collective , draft themes, issue call for chapters for
Summer 2009.
Summer 2009 - get chapters, cull them, edit and correspond with chosen
authors to finalize pieces
Published Fall or Winter 2009

Some possible themes:

*Why Social Work?

*Social Work Education/Academia

*Mental Health/Madness/Mad Pride

*Anarchism and Social Work

*Social Work/Social Control
-working within/without the police state

*Alternatives to the Welfare State

*Capitalism and Social Work

*Radical Micro/Macro Practice
-impact of professionalization and evidence-based practice
-often micro practice is framed as inherently less radical than
macro-level practice - is this true?

*Feminism , Queer Theory, and Social Work

*Whiteness and Social Work

*Philosophical critique of NASW guidelines/practices

*Social Workers, community organizing, and the Labor movement

*Non-hierarchical decision making and organizational culture

*Natural Allies or Not? - questioning the liberal-democratic makeup of
social work practitioners

*Radical research - what does it look like? Radical outcomes - how are
they measured?

*Globalization and Social Work
-migration/refugee issues
-critique of international social development practices
-critique of exporting Western style social work to other countries

Target page count of 200-400.

Of course all this is conjecture and would be drafted from the bottom up
by the editorial collective. Likely a much narrower focus than the above!

If this sounds like a project you would be interested in, please contact
us at radswbook@gmail.com

Please do not submit any pieces for consideration yet - we are just in the
exploratory phase of forming the editorial collective.
