an obscure backlash against feminist ideals

i was reading this article today in the new Nation and it was called "Sex and the Stepford Wife". intrigued i quickly flipped to the correct page and began to vigorously read their spiff on a movie i recently viewed (and thoroughly enjoyed). at first i was somewhat bummed because the author, Katha Pollit, goes on about how The Stepford Wives was ( Read more... )

This reminded me about the reason why men and women do not get equally paid for work here in Finland. The only reason that has been named is: "because women live longer." I think this is _damn stupid_. Men could live just as long if they only took as much care of their health.

What is even more unbelivable is that this "reason" was introduced by a woman. It's ridiculous but I feel like crying rather than laughing. =/

ugh!

its like how beverly lahaye is the woman who rallyed AGAINST the united state proposed amendment (but not put through) mandating equality in the workforce for women.

how can a woman support such a thing?

I feel you 100% on this! I may have to repost this onto my journal for my friends to see, as I am too lazy today to comment myself on the state of feminism.

agreed. agreed completely. We had a "feminist" unit in my writing theory class this past semester, and my teacher should have been the spokesperson for the femi-nazi group. She is a classic "conservative democrat" (which is a huge oxymoron if you ask me) and when I asked her about it, she told me she agreed with republican ideals, but couldn't be a republican because she is black and that wouldn't look right. I wonder sometimes what the world is comming to, like when the media tries to tell me which toliet tissue to wipe my ass with. but I loved and agreed with your rant. very well written.

spokesperson for the femi-nazi group?

its lame when people feel that they have to be with a certain party because of their race, sex, or/and religion.

thank you.

sorry it took me so long to read this! i just read that article today. very well spoken, maam. i always find it amusing that the women-chauvinists never practice what they preach. take phylis schaffly...she is the perfect poster child for this. she tells us to stay in the home and pop out kids..while she travels the country giving speeches at rightwing conventions and her children stay at home with their dad. the anti-feminists really don't have much of a leg to stand on, which is why i think they choose to create these false images of the "feminazi".
