I initially heard about this when they were attempting genetic modification, and I was a lot more iffy about that. I don't really have a problem with selective breeding. All domesticated animals are the result of selected breeding. $4000 is pricey, but I have no moral objection.
The guy behind the company appears to be a charlatan, including having a for-profit venture copying SETI's not-for-profit SETI@Home which he said involved retailers like Amazon.com and Dell (it didn't). More recently, in February the company (Allerga) was evicted from its San Diego HQ for nonpayment of rent.
