I've been thinking a little about geography, specifically where I want to live and why. I gave career services 2 preliminary options: pacific northwest and Chicago ( Read more... )

For me, it was definitely personal climate, although I sort of was able to have my cake and eat it too, because my choice happened to be within 2 hours driving distance of all my friends and family. I got lucky. But I definitely think the personal climate here is what keeps me and makes me rather reluctant to leave, especially after having been here 14 years, if you count college. I feel like I know this place intimately now.

That being said, I think part of why I also am reluctant to leave is that I have a network of friends here. I'm not sure how well I'd do at building up a new one in a completely new place. I've watched my friends move to new places purely based on the climate and not on knowing people there. And it's always been hard for them to get a social circle.

I'm personally in favor of living anywhere you can while you can but knowing when it's time to 'go home' or change your location to a friend based location. Having people you're already friendly with does ease the strains of life when you're starting in a new career or job though. There's a lot to be said for and against both ways of thinking.

I moved back here because at the time I wanted to be near my friends. Now I'm here because of my parents needs and money. There's a fairly decent sized list of places I would love to live simply because they're beautiful or fun or interesting or all of those things.

I live in PA because that's where Howard wanted to live.

Well, it's not totally that simple. I wanted to stay on the East Coast, because my family lives on the East Coast. But I didn't care where on the East Coast. (Well, I really wanted to live in Maine again, but there are no jobs there for me.) So, anywhere on the East Coast. I knew that before I met Howard.

Then I did my degree in Fuel Science. That does limit me a little in where I could move. Howard graduated first, and he had three offers: Philly, Indiana, Wisconsin. He chose Philly for two reasons: 1.) his parents live here and they really need the help, and 2.) it was going to be much, much easier for me to get a job in Philly.

So, Philly it is :)

HELL YEAH PNW!!

*ahem*

I grew up here and don't ever want to leave. I love the weather, the politics, the people, the landscape, pretty much everything. :-)
