There are no dead presidents we can fold...

I don’t often go to my husband’s gigs because they’re usually on weeknights and I need at least eight hours of sleep to function properly. Plus, I kind of like the time alone his nightly outings afford me.

But this past weekend he had a rare Saturday gig, so I went because it’s fun to watch him play. He’s a great drummer.

No live presidents to play... hussnfussn July 13 2004, 21:09:52 UTC
I understand that feeling, I have frequent conversations with the destitute around the downtown area. They come by my apt when I am outside standing next to my crapping dog (at least she was trying until they came and ruined it)...You see these same people come into these bars that can't afford a sign outside (which strangely is quite stylish in NY...go figure)and you see a drunk stumble in, reaking of a hard life full of bad decisions and worse hygiene. Have you ever seen the sorrow of a drunk coming into a bar when he can't afford a drink?? It maybe sadder than any funeral I have ever been too, they look at you while you pour pitchers down your throat trying as if they could voyeuristically drink from your mouth....

I hope if we have lived many lives, I was never there....nice post.

Haven't seen the sorrow of a drunk who can't afford a drink (that sounds like a tom waits lyric!) but I've seen kids with no legs who weren't born that way, but "made" that way so they can pull in more sympathy donations.... raw human survival at its worst. Hope I never fall into a place anywhere close to that. I'd like to think I've always been too smart to ever fall there, but that would not be a smart assumption to make, now would it.

Thanks for dropping by!
I've peeked in your journal after seeing you post at my sister's spot.
I like the way you write.

Well....I don't know if you were trying to "up" with your sorrowful tale...but WELL DONE...I mean Jesus, I understand that human nature is not meant to live within the happy confines of what law and a God preordained as right and wrong...But I can say that I may have never seen it in such a completely raw state. When I was in Mexico, building houses on a land fill, I watched a man sell his wife and two daughters to a man who appeared to be a pimp of sorts....I never could imagine getting to a place like that. But I suppose you are right that there are lots of things I have been through that previously I could not have imagined.

Thanks for the compliment!
I've peeked at yours as well, and went ahead and added you cuz I am lazy and don't want to search..Hope you don't mind.
I like the way you write as well.

Ha! I dunno, man. I mean, at least when you hack your kid's legs off it's for the good of the family. Selling your wife and daughter to a pimp? Now that's just selfish!

I think YOU win. :-)
