I have been on a reading spree :)...No-- I haven't as yet read the latest HP :((....but plan on doing it as soon as my sister gives me the book

wow!Nice!I loved KAtherine Frank's book, and Jhumpa Lahiri ofcourse. I'm waiting for the movie version of the namesake. I think Abhishek Bacchan plays Gogol in the film. Since you're doing Indian authors, you just have to read "Ancient Promises" by Jaishree Misra, and "Family Matters" by Rohinton Mistry. I think you might like both:)
The movie-yup...am waiting for it too! I didn't know Abhishek B. was gonna play Gogol, I thought it was gonna be Kal Penn. Need to catch up on my Stardust reading too I guess! hehehe
Will try and lay my hands on Mistry's book (I hope my univ library stocks it!)
I have read Jaishree Misra's book....it was good...ironically, my grandparents helped fix that unfortunate wedding!
really? I ended up picking Jaisree Misra's book coz her husband later got married to someone my uncle knew. I've read her other books as well, but they're no good. She writes very well though. About Abhishek Bacchan playing Gogol, someone told me that. Not sure. But whoever plays the part, its a movie i'm waiting for (Life of Pi being another one)! :)
Really? Apparently current wife's father had turned down the proposal from the husband about 20 years ago saying his daughter wants to continue with her studies (before the ill fated wedding i.e.)....And to think everything comes full circle in the end....talk about ancient promises
( ... )
:))) Given what little I know of you from your blog, I think you'll enjoy all these books....and I think we might be able to relate to them even more given our first generation 'non'immigrant status :)
Just finished with Mango Season at 2.00AM EST (I think my husband has given up on me! considering I have been devouring one book after another with no signs of letting up since last week :) )....now to get cracking on that Harry Potter :))))))
I know this a very late comment, but i think you should've read sister of my heart before Arranged Marriage. I have always liked Sister of my heart more..its got more bengali folklore.
