It's a... Complex story, but yes, I have encountered stuff like this before. Although I actually don't have any special powers to go with it.

It's really important that I find Haruhi though, she could do A LOT of damage if I don't get to her quickly...

What happened? Bad news: you were dragged here like everyone else. Adstringéndum, failed experiment, various worlds, dimensions and times getting mixed. Area known as safezone is relatively safe - it's a place where most of people live - outside is Wastelands, that is recently direction of many sightseeing trips. We'll see how many of them will make it back in one piece
