Latest round of home improvement

Yep, been at it again.  This is the summer project this year.  An attempt to turn the area under the deck into something useful.  Here is what the area under the deck used to look like.  Admittedly it wasn't usually so festive but they had just marked the utilities.  The gravel was really hard on the dogs' paws and generally just looks like crap.

Otherwise, the yard got very little shade and we've never had much luck growing grass back there.  Previous owners had placed a utility shed on the one side of the yard that actually got sun.  This is a picture of the one section of grass and weeds that managed to survive.

And now the patio that I am so incredibly thankful that I paid someone else to put in during the 100+ degree heat index weekend.  I did end up removing the spoil, grading the yard and moving the utility shed on Sunday.  The hyacinth is definitely NOT happy with all this.

And here is the yard post importation of 11 cubic feet of topsoil and placement of sod.  I was still sweating and covered with dirt; trying to finish up work when the entire family (minus the cat) decided to come and flop in this new and novel grass thing.

A weekend of hard work but I think worth it.  Now I've just got to get rid of a car top carrier, a dog ramp and some other random crap and we'll have reclaimed the area.
