[Accidental Audio]

[The recording opens to relative silence. The communicator is right by Layton's head; if you listen closely, you can hear him breathing weakly, but that's it. Soon, however, the jingle of a bell can be heard, followed by a soft thump.]

Meow? Meow meow?

[When Claire gets no response, she licks Layton's face. A small sound

[You're welcome to hear Luke tending to Layton, but he won't be noticing Layton's communicator.]

[You may hear Luke tending to Layton, but he won't really notice the communicator.]

(He doesn't speak cat...but he does know something is wrong. So, now he's looking for some sign of where Layton is.)

[Well, today's your lucky day! Claire's a pretty smart kitty, so in response to the silence, she begins pawing at the communicator.

And... BLINK video. She moves, but all that's seen is the ceiling--least until Claire lifts it up with her nose and paw to show the surroundings.

It sort of looks like one of the Latimir apartments.]

[proudapprentice]

[A short moment later, there's a knock on the door. Luke enters quietly.]

Professor?

layton: zzzzzz

[puzzledprof]

[If he heard it, he didn't show it; his expression and position remained unchanged, breathing as weakly as ever.]

[proudapprentice]

[Luke comes over and stands by Layton's bed a moment.]

The professor's just sleeping, Claire.

[If he were actually talking to the cat, he'd have mew'd instead.

Luke sets a hand on Layton's forehead and frowns. Claire hops up on Layton's chest and balls up there.]

Professor? [Hopeful he'll respond a little.] Do you want extra blankets? It's starting to snow outside, actually... Just like it was when I got here, remember?

[puzzledprof]

[No response. There's a quiet pained moan, but it doesn't sound like it came from anything Luke or Claire did.]

...Is something wrong?
