Character Name: Yami-Yugi (his real name is Atem but he doesn't remember that yet)
Series: Yugioh
Timeline: Post Episode 54; after Isis totally spoils the entire season with her metagaming bullshit.
Background: His wiki, it's about boring card games to which I will hardly reference. This is his wiki for his previous life, but as of right now he doesn't remember it.

Atem began his life as an Egyptian Pharaoh from a bajillion years ago. Okay so more like three thousand years ago. He was raised as per usual, his father died when he was very young and when he was in his late teens/early twenties he ascended to the throne. He wasn't Pharaoh for very long before shit hit the fan. Shadow magic involving the evil in people's souls manifesting as demons and beasts came about and long story short, it was because his dad made these magical items called the Millenium items. There was one for each of his six priests and the puzzle, an upside-down pyramid that stays with the current Pharaoh.

Atem decided this shit was not kosher, called on the strength of the gods Osiris, Ra and Obelisk and killed the evil in the face. He then proceeded to sacrifice his life and lock away the magic of the items, and his soul in the puzzle to make sure it wasn't used for evil. This was very optimistic of him, because as his soul sat in the puzzle he forgot everything and also became kind of twisted and dark. Not quite evil, but definitely not purely good.

Fast-forward to three thousand years later, a boy named Yugi reassembled the Millenium puzzle, and as such the Pharaoh was able to manifest in his soul and use his body. Which he did so, punishing the people who teased this poor little loser with dark games that broke their minds, drove them to insanity and sometimes even killed them. It was pretty gruesome. Then the Duel Monsters card game came along and things got really dull.

I mean uh, awesome. Or something like that.

Anyway Yugi was faintly aware of the fact that his "other self" might actually be an entirely different person, but the other spirit wasn't. He didn't remember anything about his past life, not even his name, so he just took things as they came and settled for protecting Yugi and looking out for him. He was really damn good at coming up with games and winning them, so he continued to do that and made Yugi's life way better. Yugi's grandpa's soul got kidnapped, blah blah, ancient magic and they had to do this tournament for this psychotic pining American, Pegasus. Everything's going good until this one duel basically comes down to life or death for his opponent. The spirit -Yami- is completely down with the other guy dying if that means he wins and Yugi doesn't think that's awesome, so they kind of have a big fight about it and Yami loses Yugi's trust.

They kind of dance around each other -Yugi's scared of Yami and Yami's all "buuuut but D:"- for a while until it gets down to the wire and Yami and Yugi decide to work together again as a team, instead of Yami doing all the work and Yugi riding his coattails of success. Together they face Pegasus, who has a Millenium Item too, and he uses it to make shit serious. Yugi ends up collapsing because he's not all used to the Shadow magic thing and Yami flips out and then defeats Pegasus with Yugi's help. Friendship speeches here.

Anyway once they get back to Japan Yami has an identity crisis and has a chat with Yugi, and they both agree that they want Yami to stick around even if that means he never gets his memories. But Yami is still curious about who he was in his past life, so he goes to an exhibit in the museum when they see the Millenium puzzle on a tablet recovered from Egypt from the tomb of a nameless Pharaoh. Yami finds out that he is the Nameless Pharaoh and is like "whoa that's pretty trippy." Then their informant, Isis, tells him that he has to save the world with a children's card game and Yami is like "wow cool playing around like a little kid I am so for that."

And that's when I'm taking him from. :|b

Personality:

Yami's having a bit of an identity crisis since he doesn't remember who he is, but that doesn't mean he lacks personality.

First of all, he's pretty quiet. He lets Yugi do most of the socializing for him, so when it comes down to making conversation he doesn't do it unless it involves intimidating people, talking trash (when he's confident that he'll win and his opponent is a jackass) or if someone says something about games. Then he lights up and chatters like nobody's business. Likewise, with Yugi's he's positively wordy, but with everyone else he just kind of sits silently and listens, only interjecting when absolutely necessary. He's a listener.

He's also pretty arrogant. He exudes this air of "I'm way better than most of you" and doesn't usually bother feigning humility for the sake of being polite. If he's better than someone at something, he'll let them know and he'll beat the pants off of them. ...that being said he's really only good at games, so in a place where games aren't nearly as important his ego is probably going to take a few blows.

Yami is also fiercely protective of Yugi and the friends he makes. Because it does take him a bit to get used to people and form bonds, the ones he has are precious to him and he'll defend them to his last breath. He also firmly believes in the merits of seeking revenge, and will do just that if he can manage to. Deep down in his heart is the nobility of a great king, but upon that is all the scarring caused by being trapped in the Shadow Realm for thousands of years, so he sees the worlds in shades of gray and has no qualms playing the role of the bad guy if he thinks it suits his or Yugi's interests. Especially without Yugi's soul there to purify his, he can lean toward his darker side with much more ease than before.

Appearance: The first thing to note is his stupid hair. He has ridiculous hair (blond bangs and this weird star-shaped red/black thing on the back of his head) and he's very short, probably only about five feet tall. He's really scrawny and thin, and his eyes are kind of artsy-Egyptian-looking and purplish-red. ...seriously the art in this show is dumb.

HERE HAVE A PICTURE ANYWAY. Because it is both cute and a good visual. Yami is the one on the left.

Spoken / written languages: Spoken/written - Japanese. If Yami recovers his name (and memories, by default) then he'll also be able to speak and write in ancient Egyptian.

Abilities: The only power Yami has is his Shadow magic; he can use the Millenium Puzzle in combination with his own abilities to cast illusions over someone's mind. Usually he does this to punish people that abuse Yugi or people he cares about, but he can get pretty vicious if he's angry enough. Depending on the severity, he can crush someone's mind and put them in a coma, make them see visions of horror for at least a few hours or even cause them to go insane.

He hasn't done that shit in a long, long time though. And he usually plays a game (a SHADOW game, oh ho ho so clever) with them first; he has to win it, or he can't use his powers. ...or rather, he doesn't. It's never specified whether or not he could just do it anyway, but assuming everyone else uses their magic shit all over creation I'm inclined to say he just would rather break someone's ego before he breaks their soul, because he's kind of a pompous dick.

HOWEVER. If Yami were to learn his true name he could cast very powerful Shadow magic whenever he wanted. In order to do that though, he would have to revisit his memories and to do that he needs the puzzle, which Yugi is bringing but will probably be confiscated if he's accepted. So for now, his powers are locked away.

Items: Just his clothes and a deck of egyptian-style playing cards. NOT DUEL MONSTERS CARDS. I fucking hate that game.

Third Person Sample:

Despite his seemingly short fuse, Yami was usually very reserved and patient. One didn't devise brilliant strategies and keep them a secret from one's opponent without the ability to keep one's mouth shut. He could ignore jeers, flippantly deter any questions and generally smirk his way through any interrogation.

But this...this he couldn't overlook.

For one, he didn't have the puzzle. That meant that somehow he was the one in control of Yugi's body. Which led to the second problem, Yugi was not present. This was absolutely unacceptable; only powerful dark magic could separate the two of them with Yami in control of the body, and he only knew of a few people who could do such a thing. Individuals in possession of another Millenium Item. Which meant he was going to have to break some minds once he got a hold of them, because this? Separating he and Yugi, trapping Yugi in the puzzle and taking it somewhere else?

Was not cool. Not cool in the least. Someone was going to suffer for this.

Not to mention he was on a giant cruise liner for God's sake. Kaiba was capable of shelling out the money to make this ludicrous plan possible, but why would he even bother? He didn't seem the type to believe in ancient Egyptian magic, he was far too skeptical. Even if he'd had Yugi kidnapped and shoved them on a boat, why would he bother taking the puzzle? And how would he know to separate them?

Something dark was happening, and Yami didn't like it one bit. He needed to get to the bottom of this, and that involved leaving the room. Though...without the puzzle, he couldn't perform any of his magic so he was nearly defenseless. Then again, that had never really stopped him before, and it was without fear that he flung the door open and marched out of the room. He would flip the next person he saw into the sun if they didn't tell him where Yugi was.

So determined was he in his search for his other that he completely overlooked the communicator and keycard on the desk as he left the room.

First Person Sample:

I demand an explanation.

Kaiba, if you're responsible for this then we need to have words. I did not agree to this tournament to have you shuffle me around like a parcel. You can wake me before you decide to move me again, understood?

[An extremely disgruntled silence.]

I require an item. It resembles a golden pyramid attached to a large chain. If you have located it, I would like it back. [Meaning it's his and he will take it back by tackling you like a twig-shaped linebacker if necessary.]

Preferred Quarters: Right next to Yugi please, if they're both accepted. :|
