[After getting off the phone with some drones at the Mayfield High School, he hangs up---though it appears as though he hasn't placed the phone all the way onto the hook. As such, you'll be able to hear him talking to himself.]

...Ethics. This place wants me. To teach Ethics.

[He laughs to himself. A cruel, ironic, cold laugh. A sad, pathetic ( Read more... )

How do the words, "Pokey Minch: Genius Supercriminal" sound to you?

They sound awesome to me. What've you got planned?

Being an officer of the law certainly didn't put me any closer to getting out of this damned town. So why not try the opposite end of the spectrum? Hmmm?

I intend to create an underground criminal movement to strike at Mayfield's core. And when they're at their weakest, that's when we make our move and find our way out.

[Checking out the orange coveralls. Apparently, this is a sign that even Mayfield doesn't approve of Eddie's preferred choices in fashion (the spandex).]

Harley was right.

[He glances at Slugger.]

About what?

About meeting you in an asylum. It says "Arkham", right?

[Oh, the things he knows.]

[He sighs.]

Yes, Slugger. I'd told you before that I was a prisoner, and now you know where. I'd been sent to the Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane. Several times, in fact.

Ethics? What's so bad about that? [Even if it sounds like the worst subject in the world.]

Frankly, I have better things to do than listen to a bunch of brats blather on about ethics in a place as unethical as Mayfield.

What do you care? You don't even have to listen! Just give them all Fs.

True, true. I could do that. But would that be the ethical thing to do?

Ethics...

[Rolls her eyes.]

People need to worry less about those. They interfere with things.

puzzlerprince February 21 2011, 17:56:22 UTC
...indeed. Far more often than we would like.

Exactly. And important things too. Like science.

[Oh no GLaDOS, don't lock us in the facility. It's not "ethical".]

[He chuckles a bit.]

Unfortunately, ethics and science may always be linked together.

I probably shouldn't be as surprised as I am.

[Edward turns to face her.]

Surprised, Susan?

[Let's just try and ignore the orange, cloth elephant in the room.]

You're fond of those puzzles in the newspaper, aren't you?

[She crosses the room and heads straight for the elephant.]

Six letters. Definition: an institution for the care of the mentally ill or those requiring specialized assistance. Or a refuge, sanctuary. Though I don't think the latter issues uniforms.

[With all the bad things that've happened to him in the past couple of weeks, what'll it hurt to add "having your fake family find out you've been institutionalized" to the list? Edward's eyes narrow at her and he grits his teeth.]

Fine. I admit it. There's no point in trying to hide this from you any longer. Back home, I'm a criminal mastermind. I was caught---[Several times, but let's not get into that]---and sentenced to imprisonment in an asylum.
