Riddle 025: Father-Son Bonding? (Violence Ensues)

Apr 21, 2011 17:42

[How does one defeat a telepath? That's the riddle that's been keeping Edward up at night, isn't it? Thankfully, the anti-telepathy shield that Luthor loaned to Edward seems to be doing the trick, but the Riddler can't help but feel an uncertain sense of paranoia every time he contemplates removing it. All it would take to sabotage him is one thought. One. Idle. Thought. About whatever daring scheme he'd concocted that night. And immediately, he'd be compromised. Back to the drawing board again.

No, damn it. This is the third long night in his study, concocting yet another plan. He can't possibly wear the shield forever. And he can't sabotage himself one more goddamn time. Otherwise, he can just forget about being able to defeat Schuldig, right?

...wait. That's it. He just has to forget. Edward's survived enough blunt trauma to the head in his lifetime---what would another couple of whacks to the face hurt? But still... what about the off-chance that he wouldn't be able to forget? What then? All too quickly, though, he remembers Schuldig's words.

"...I've only ever found one way to turn the radio off. Every moment you're breathing is a moment you should spend thanking me for tolerating it."

Edward swallows. This... isn't going to be easy, is it?]

[No. This is it. This is the only way. After several long moments of scheming and last-minute organization, Edward calls out of the study, his voice somewhat shaky.]

...Slugger? C-could you come upstairs, please?
