Wouldn't know about that. From the SPCA's website:

Number of unwanted animals received
The SPCA is the only shelter in Singapore that does not have selective intake - i.e., it accepts all animals that are brought in. This means the SPCA receives about 700 animals each month, or an average of 27 animals a day. Up to 400 are unwanted or abandoned pets. The remaining animals are strays, many of which are sick, injured and/or newborn. Only around 85 are adopted each month. With so few homes, and a limited amount of space at SPCA, many of the other animals have to be euthanased.

...So, well, yes. They do sedate animals first, and you can see their full position here- frankly, I can't blame them.

you and... a lot of other people, it seems. 700 animals per month and only 85 adopted- you know, kittens can survive pretty well if you just leave them alone, but yeah, I can understand SPCA's position, even if it's pretty D:

Horrible, but there are worse things than death, and I think no-kill shelters can sometimes be much worse. If someone surrenders a dog that is highly unlikely to ever be adopted and is stressed and miserable in kennels, then it's kinder to euthanise. It's too idealistic to think every animal can be saved - there are just too many. I don't like the idea of animals being killed just days after being handed over, but nor do I like the thought of some dog spending year after miserable year in a kennel for the sake of a low or no-kill statistic. It's a sad fact that there are simply too many pets and not enough homes, and too many people breeding when they shouldn't be.

I agree that anyone getting a pet should think carefully about whether they can provide for that animal for the rest of its life, though. Too many people get pets on a whim.

I second this entirely. "No-kill" shelters can allow animals to live, that would be happier if they were put down.

But do I agree with people dropping off perfectly healthy animals, at any given time, whenever they feel like it? No. I wish people could be more responsible, too. Getting a new animal is like adopting a kid, but people treat them like they shouldn't be a big responsibility.. so ridiculous.

"If your dog is big, black or any of the "Bully" breeds (pit bull, rottie, mastiff, etc) it was pretty much dead when you walked it through the front door." My dog is all three :( and it just breaks my heart when I read these things (even if they're sometimes obviously fake).

I dont think the Philippines have places like this. If a pet is unwanted here, people will just leave them but most of the time, given to friends or neighbors. There's a lot of stray domestic animals here and they don't get killed (unless hungry useless drunkards will try to EAT them...yes, they do!).

This really broke my heart T___T I'm an animal lover and I don't want to see them suffer T__T They just don't deserve to be treated like that...
