[Thanks to everyone who has responded so far... these are really useful]
I'm writing a term paper for 21L.432 Understanding Television on Lost. I would really like feedback from people who watched it and stopped, people who never started watching it, and people who still watch it.
If you have a few minutes your help would be much appreciated. Answer

1 & 2: When I started watching, the show was in its 3rd season (I think it was during the gap in new episodes between Nov 06 and Feb 07), but I watched from the beginning, with the first 2 seasons on DVD and then the 3rd season on iTunes.
3: TV
4: I often read online columns/blogs about the show, such as the Entertainment Weekly recap thing. I also listen to the Lost podcast.
5: I wouldn't say it's necessary. I usually have no trouble understanding what's happening. Reading stuff online does help to think a little deeper into what's going on and have fun with theories and such. Also it helps to read online summaries of previous episodes if I forgot something that happened a while back and I want to remember.
6: No. But if I did, I would definitely feel like I had to go back and watch all the missed episodes.
7 & 8: No and no. I think they do a pretty good job of reminding you of what you need to know, but see my answer to (5).

* I think I started with the first ep, and any catching up early on ws done via reruns - oh, and I bought a couple eps from iTunes if I missed them during the first season.
* Now I watch it when it airs or later on abc.com.
* I looked at a media extension website once, but never got into anything.
* No, but I imagine there are things I'm probably missing by not.
* When I've missed a few episodes, I've felt the need to watch them before watching anything new, or else I think I'd be pretty lost.
* Not really hard to follow, bt sometime it takes me minute to remember what's going on.
* i don't find the large cast to be a challenge.

Thanks for the response, I'll definitely look into Amazon. I've heard Cast Away and Alias mentioned as having influenced Lost but not Amazon. You wouldn't happen to have any episodes in that vast media collection of your do you?

Amazon is one of those magical shows that completely disappeared. I've searched for it and can't find it and there haven't been DVDs released of it either.
What wiki and imdb fail to mention about the show is that after the initial "omg we're lost and there are snakes and spiders and crazy natives" episodes their started to be a supernatural plot line with visions and stuff. Can't remember what exactly, but when Lost was described to me, it sounds awfully similar to the premise of Amazon.
