Taking a Class in the Fall?

I'm thinking of taking a language course next fall at the Harvard Extension School. It would help me prep for graduate school.* The question is, however, do I begin an entirely new language or do I improve my Spanish?

Here are the languages I am thinking of if I start a new one: German, Italian, Persian, or Hindi.

I would go with the writing class. It seems plausible that during the course of the writing class you might find a specific area that really interests you, and you can then decide which language would suit you best.

I don't see any way the writing class could be anything but positive down the road. If you instead choose a language class, you might be 1) making a decision you will later regret when you realize the language is of no use to you or 2) placing a semi-arbitrary boundary on your field of study prematurely simply because you want to do something in a language you are familiar with.

I assume you are going to end up taking a language class, but I'd think hard about it if I were you.

I initially looked at taking classes with taking a language in mind and found the writing course on accident, but after actually thinking about it the writing course really does seem like the better choice. Even if just to show them that the "engineer" can write at an advanced level.
