I'd give Tyler at Paramount in Powderhouse a try, or Broadway Bicycle in Inman. Given that my co-worker in on wheel #4 in not as many weeks (not from either of those stores!), I feel obligated to point out that you should not sacrifice competence for price :)

I certainly wouldn't want to sacrifice competence for price, but competence and relative cheapness would be nice...

wheelworks wrestled with the seat post of my bike for a good half hour, then chopped off part of it and replaced it in my bike, and then installed my new seat. this took in totally about 45 minutes, and they only charged me 30 for everything including the new seat...

pretty cost-effective in my mind.

you could also convince vlad to fix the gears, he did it for my bike.

Ace is decently priced for some things; I don't have any experience with repairs. I find many of their salesfolk rather high on snootiness. I always go to Broadway, because I like their attitude---willingness to teach me, or just sell me the parts I need---and like to support them. They're inexpensive for repairs, not necessarily for whole bikes.

Willingness to teach customers is definitely a plus in my book...

That's two votes for Broadway... thanks!
