If you don't mind, I'm going to point shephi here; she's at ETH Zurich and has spent lots of time overseas. Also, she's awesome :)

Thanks! The pool of people I know who have gone overseas for long periods is rather small, so help is much appreciated.

1. Tell h now. The longer they know they will need to fill the position, the happier they will be. Also tell them your expected last day of work (aug 1?)

2. I'd think you would want to get there a min of 1 week before, ideally 2 if you are going to try to get settled into an apartment during that time.

3. Is there any way to pick up a job there?

4. Maybe the may place won't get rented then (it is, after all, quite soon for it to not be filled by) and it could still be on the market in august?

Lots of things to consider, I know. Good luck!

If I get a job in NL, I will end up owing more to the gov't in taxes/health insurance than I would make from the job. Yeah work restrictions! NL/US don't double tax, hence the telecommute idea.

I was thinking about a week, though I'll probably be working at H right until then.

I'm planning to contact the landlord to see if I could rent starting in like Aug. Alternatively, I'm planning to ask some other landlords to see if having a kitten would be ok. Sadly, I have to wait until I'm officially registered at Maastricht to register on the housing coop sites... *grumble*

obra has a gently used Canon EOS 10D that he doesn't use much these days, and is probably willing to sell.

I would definitely be interested if that were the case. :)
