There was a huge amount of discussion earlier this year about warnings, and I've changed my warnings policy as an outcome of that discussion. As a fan writer, I'd rather tell people what might be distressing in a story than risk them being triggered in some way by that story. I do put my warnings in white text on white, so people can choose to skip them if they wish and not be spoiled.
Fan writing and pro writing happen in different venues, with different expectations from the reader. Part of those expectations include warnings for potentially triggering material. It's what a fan writer has to do to play here.
I agree completely with you on auther's notes and begging for comments. Yuck.
