(no subject)
So yeah, Otakon 2010. Not sure how i feel about it.
On one hand, yeah, conventions are always fun no matter what, but it really just felt like... something was missing this year. My roommates were all awesome people and I enjoyed their company a lot, but other than them I didn't make too many new friends. Sad.
I got up Thursday around... 7:00 or so? I forget what time, got the last of my shit packed and had to use a pretty old camera since i can't find the battery charger for mine, but its all cool. I was happy for it. I Ended up talking with someone who was heading to Otakon while waiting at the airport. it was pretty cool. Also ended up sitting next to two people whom i haven't seen in ages. Sat with them on the light rail. Fun times. Anyways I got there and my room was already ready for me. Which was pretty cool. Got everything in and got to the convention center to line up for badge pickup. The line was pretty long but they got everyone in really quickly because of the rain, but alas, my DS is weak to water so it got fucked up. I could not pictochat. Anyways after I got my badge, I went back to the hotel, picking up Blazblue CS on the way. Met up with Nobu and Steve and got some mcdonalds. Roomies started to filter in afterwards. Once they were all accounted for, we just kinda hung out back at the hotel. I think I did something else but i forget what that was. Oh well.
Friday was pretty fun. I got into my quote costume (which sadly no one seemed to recognize save for maybe two people) and headed to the con to get in line, ended up meeting Matt/Rinnosuke from 2008 and hung out with him for awhile, and then saw Kilga and his crew. Ended up spending a lot of the day with them. At least Kilga, John, and Script Fairy anyhow. Played some magic in the game room, and some blaz. I got demolished by some good players. Didn't really go to any panels. Just kinda chilled and took things easy and hung out with various people most of the day. Went back to the room kinda early, like around 10:00-ish because there wasn't really much else I wanted to do.
Saturday was decent. Hopped into Arakune and went to the convention center, got my picture taken with a random blaz group and saw some awesome touhou cosplay at the photoshoot. Though it was way too damn hot outside. So much fun though. One of these conventions i really gotta get in on that shit. Anyways, firealarm happened and holy shit i lost the upper half of arakune, not to worry though, cause I just put the lower half above my head, and rushed to cvs to buy a paperplate, a shaprie, a holepunch, and some shoelaces. It worked out rather well, but sadly the Blaz group fell apart immediately. Too bad I really din't get the chance to talk to anyone much. The Kokonoe and Valkenhayn cosplayers were pretty awesome. Went back to dealers room/artists alley to kill some time, randomly went to the Street Fighter Photoshoot. There was a Q. Awesome. Anyways, night time came about and that's when all my panels were starting. Went to the OC remix panel, left about halfway through though. I had shit i wanted to do. Met up with folks in the karaoke room. that was pretty awesome. Especially one of the first songs that was sung while I was there was soldiers of sorrow from Gundam. After that it was touhou panel time, so it was time to get in line. Played some magic with people in line and then holy shit ran into Kevin and Adam whom I haven't seen in ages. Fun times were had. After the panel we went to the artists alley for the last sweep and then made a mad rush for the Japanese resturant to get food with Kilga and crew. Good times were had by all and the food was pretty damn good too. Went back to the convention center to see the "your favorite VG character sucks" panel. Pretty funny. Anyways it was time to head back to the hotel room afterwards. Started packing and just talking with my roomies until at least 3 AM. I may not have met many people at this convention, but I can say this: at least the people I met were all really cool.
Sunday rolled around. Time to pack up and get the last minute things from the dealers room... Kevin and I drafted at the CTcon booth and he took first place, which made me really happy. He deserved it for letting me hang in his room till I had to leave for the airport. Ended up waiting at the station with a bunch of cool megaman fans. Got on the light rail and got checked in, glad I was only spending two hours waiting to leave. Only to be surprised with the fact that the plane was delayed till 11:05pm. So I spent more time just talking on my phone, and then hanging with some of the people that were at otakon who were also waiting for their flight back. Our plane didn't fly out till almost 11:40, and I didn't get home till about 1:00 or so. So yeah, that's my trip.
