I wish I knew the context for this. Is the writer concerned about the "dumbing down" effect of mass media? Or the weird misuses which occur in the jargonized worlds of work; those convolutions intended to mystify unfortunates outside the group, and to imbue the speakers of with a sparkle of wit (as fake as zirconium?)

Specifically, the author is complaining about the use of "like" as a non-similie word. (EX: I feel like I'm going to run.) I felt this had broader implications.

"I feel as though I'm going to run." or "I would like to run." or "I'm going to run."
