yeah, it's probably time to start backing away from FB if you haven't already been seriously guarded with your data. i can't say that the latest privacy changes are a big surprise but it's got a lot of different groups up in arms, particularly in the technosphere.

I'm not - and have never been - a facebook user. Hence the question.

in any case, wouldn't it just be easier for them to delete their profiles? I just find it weird that the ACLU and MoveOn are asking for my money (well, indirectly) to protest a service that people willingly signed up for. Why don't they just tell people to delete their accounts? Surely Senator Charles Schumer has better things to do than worry about people's facebook pages?

i really only started using facebook to any meaningful extent 6 weeks ago, so i didn't really know what your usage patterns were.

most of the tech blog type things are in fact suggesting to people that they delete their accounts. the reality is that most people who are active users aren't going to do that-- precisely what the site devs are expecting. so while i agree with you that it's weird to ask for money on these grounds, it also makes some degree of sense to try and force the site to behave through the courts.
