Irritating new way to advertise

Here are two hints that may help cut down on pop-ups and DHTML abuse (the kind of ad you experienced today):
  • If you're using MSIE, add suspect sites (e.g. ones that attack you with bunny-hopping ads) into your "Restricted Sites" group. That'll prevent client-side scripts from executing, including ones that use DHTML.
  • I use AnalogX's POW! to auto-nail pop-up windows. Every time I see a new one, I add it into my Pow! database. If the URL can be adapted into a wildcard-escaped sequence to crunch a wider range of pop-ups (e.g. http://adserver.assmasters.com/*), I do that, too. It really does help cut down on the number of annoying windows I need to close.

Hope that helps. I hate marketing in all its many forms.

Use Mozilla 1.0! anonymous June 19 2002, 18:29:35 UTC
Mozilla 1.0 allows you to DISABLE popups and other annoying windows on a PER-SITE basis (useful for those annoying login screens on essential sites).
