Ask me Anything

Jul 13, 2010 19:43

For fun, this is going to be a different sort of post.

Ask me anything. It can be anything, no holds barred. Anonymous or not. You can also ask me via private message if you want, but obviously public comments are fine too.
The only exceptions:
  • No direct personally identifiable info (my full name, my address, phone number, etc)
  • No super-private ( Read more... )

Recently you said that you spent the majority of your teen years etc studying and getting your head down for law school as opposed to partying and drinking etc. Do you regret that? Do you feel you missed out on a lot of experiences because of it, or do you think it was a smart decision and that you basically have your future sorted out and will be able to enjoy the rest of your life knowing that?

There's certainly a part of me that wonders what life would have been like if I did party and mess around a lot. Honestly, however, I don't think I missed out too much -- while I'm sure a lot of people had fun at the time, most people I know who got heavily into that are now utterly fucked in many respects, particularly in that they have no future prospects or plans. It sucks a lot that I missed out on a lot of bonding with my peers (or whatever you might call it), but honestly the fact that I'll be making a shit ton of money makes all of that better somehow.

I do know it will make any sort of bonding with my own age group difficult in the future, though. My life is vastly different than most. I never had a formative sort of "highschool experience" like most, nor did I ever have any sort of stereotypical "crazy college experiences". I'm not the type to laugh and talk about tailgating or wild parties or anything, which sets me apart. I'm pretty good at making them up, though.

How and when did you first become interested in fashion?

Well, when I was a teenager, at some point I made the decision to try to work harder to look better and dress better. It kinda-sorta came from the realization that I was a basement dwelling nerd type, something which I began to resent. So, I began to exercise lots and I worked to dress better. I took me a long time to build up anything close to a respectable wardrobe, even in college, but during the whole process I was learning about different aspects of fashion, which I found kinda interesting.

So basically, it just all somewhat started as a result of me wanting to look better and be more than the video gaming geek type.

Hmm...just because we are new friends so I know nothing:
How do you spend your time? Spare time and time spent working.

I mostly waste my time nowadays weight lifting, reading, playing around with friends with video games and the like, and other stuff. I spend a lot of time kinda "half-working", meaning I'll watch a movie and work on my magazine, or play a video game and intermittently contact clients.

You've mentioned video games- so which games do you play? And are you more of a PC or console person?

I'm a mix. I used to be a big console junkie as a kid, particularly with adventure games and RPGs. Nowadays I game heavily on my PC, but only because I emulate and/or play modifications of shooter games my friends make. My general rule of thumb is I prefer shooters on the PC and RPGs/Adventures on consoles. I've sold off all of my consoles other than my PS3, though, which I mainly use for Netflix and playing old Final Fantasy games.

Oh, the only exception to the PC game rule is the RPG Charles Barkley's Shut up and Jam! Gaiden. Play it. Trust me. Just do it.

This is a rather open-ended question, so I apologize if it's difficult to answer, but I'm curious: what inspires you?

Uhh, that's tough.

Sometimes I get really inspired by perfection and order. There's a sort of beauty and elegance in form that some things have which make me incredibly happy. The feeling of something made singularly perfect at a single moment without any sort of issues -- or even sometimes something nearly perfect with a sort of single error, in a sort of wabi-sabi sense. I love seeing well designed websites, beautiful architecture, elaborate paintings, perfectly scripted movies, and the like.

When I was a kid, nothing would make me happier than a nice, clean, tight programming script. There was something orgasmic about the simplicity in form resulting in functionality and depth.
