When I had fabric scraps I organized them by size and color. I got rid of a lot in my last move -- had to finally admit to myself that I was never going to get around to turning them into anything!

ooh organization....I'll get to that eventually.

I tend to make piles based on what the fabric will eventually turn into: SCA thing, WoT thing, other costume thing, zomgwtfisthis thing, etc. To some extent that means it gets divided by type, but right now, just buckets of fabrics.
