I do agree with the commenter who pointed out the only significant flaw in the article- that of not splitting those of different skill levels into different groups. Frankly I know I was leagues ahead of some others who were in the top set, so I hate to think how much slower the (already relatively slow) pace would have been if we'd had mixed ability classes.
But yes- education should consist of:
1. Instilling the ability to learn.
2. Instilling the desire to learn.
3. Giving basic numeracy, literacy, etc.
4. Giving samples of some activities and discussions of 'life'.
