Friday Evening - Caprica

"We're back!" Lee calls out as he shuts the door, softly behind him.

Caroline Adama darts out of a room on the side and makes a beeline towards them. "Oh, wonderful! Just in time!" She cups Lee's face and kisses him on both cheeks. "Hello, love." She does the same to Kara and says, "Kara, come with me."

Kara looks over at Lee, slightly unnerved and he shrugs, carrying her bag up to the guest room.

Before she realizes it, Caroline has her hand in hers and is pulling her into another room.

"Now then," Caroline says, closing the double doors and leaning against them. "About the Charity Ball tomorrow night..."

Kara runs a hand through her hair and shifts uncomfortably. "I don't know. Balls really aren't my thing, and I don't have anything to wear."

Caroline beams at her and then makes a clicking noise with her tongue. "Oh, yes, you do!"

She unzips a long garment bag hanging from a hook on the door and pulls out a long black dress. Caroline whips around and presents it to Kara. "The design shop delivered it an hour ago. Isn't it fabulous? You're going to look absolutely beautiful in it."

Kara just stares.

"Well, come on, girl! Clothes off! Let's try it on!" commands Caroline, eyes flashing.

As the other woman doesn't look as if she will brook any argument, Kara jerks into motion and starts taking off her clothes.

"Bra, too, dear. Can't wear one with this dress," Caroline says with a grin. "Come on, don't be shy."

More bewildered than anything, Kara does as she's told. "Good girl. Now, let's slip you into this." Caroline unzips the back of the dress and holds it out to allow Kara to step into it. "Lift up the front and hold it there while I zip you up." Caroline does the zip and the buttons at the back, and reaches for the halter and ties it in a bow with smooth efficiency behind Kara's neck.

Kara looks at her reflection in three-way mirror in front of her while Caroline makes little adjustments around the dress. She's never worn anything quite like it before, and feels rather out of place in such a garment. Not to mention the price.

Caroline finishes and looks up at Kara. "Wonderful, simply wonderful," she murmurs, looking her over with a practiced eye. "Come now, push those glorious shoulders of yours back, Kara. Don't let them go to waste on bad posture."

Instead of putting her shoulders back, Kara says, "This is beautiful, but I--"

Caroline puts up a hand. "Kara Thrace, I do not want to hear it." She takes Kara's face in her hands and says, "You are going to be the most beautiful girl there tomorrow night and when my son sees you, he is going to fall in love with you all over again." Caroline gives her a warm smile, and she can't help but smile back.

"Good girl. Now, shoulders back." This time Kara does as requested and gives herself a long look in the mirror, turning from side to side. It is kinda nice. "Mmm, yes, I knew this would be a fabulous cut on you," Caroline says, sliding her hands over Kara's bare shoulders. "Gorgeous."

Caroline runs a hand through Kara's hair, and says, "You've been growing your hair out, haven't you? I like it. Gives you a softer look. When my stylist comes tomorrow, I'll have him do something for you as well." Kara just smiles, not wishing to go up against the force of Caroline Adama's will. "I'll also find you a purse and shoes. That shouldn't be a problem as I think we're same size. I have some new ones from Delphi, oh - they're heavenly and just the right shade."

"Thank you for this. It's amazing. I'm not sure what I did to deserve it." Kara says.

Caroline touches her cheek again and smiles at her, half sadness and half affection. "Oh, Kara. You're practically family. You deserve this and so much more." Kara ducks her head away from Caroline's gaze, the emotion from the day becoming too much.

"Oh, look at the time!" Caroline exclaims. "I must be getting ready for this evening. When you're done with the dress, put it back in the bag." She runs her hands down the sides of the dress one more time. "Breathtaking," she breathes. "Anyway, must be off. See you later, dear!"
