SPN RPS Fic - An Absence of Rain

Mar 05, 2009 03:04

I dedicate this fic to three people: Victoria, Todd the TA, and of course, Dr. Jellison. Also, first-ever RPF and first-ever slash in general. Wow. Two birds, meet my one stone.

Title: An Absence of Rain
Pairing: J2 (AU)
Rating: PG-13
Notes: Inspired by a comment unreckless  made during our History Through Film class after we watched The Grapes of Wrath. Set in ( Read more... )

meanwhile in a parallel world..., ohgodohgodmybrain, so much drama!, fanfiction, a wild secondary character appears!, whatever. idek., that show with the brothers and the car, rps

Beautiful and indelible. There's hope amongst the oranges and dust. Thanks so much for sharing this soul-touching fic, it really took my breath away :)

Oh, what a lovely compliment! To take someone's breath away with my writing--I can't think of anything more incredible than that. Thank you so much.

Yay! I love getting just the right amount of something in a piece. It's always a struggle for me to not go overboard, so your comment makes me very happy! Thank you!

Oh, the imagery is so visceral! I can almost taste the dust, feel the grit under my fingers...and now I really want an orange! Just a gorgeous fic, really loved it. It also made me think of Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men". I kept picturing Jared as Lenny, all tall and sweet, and Jensen as George, especially where he was making sure Jared got the bigger potato. *shoves plot bunny at you and makes Bambi eyes, whistling innocently*

Unfortunately, I've never read that book! I haven't read any Steinbeck--rather shameful for an English major, if you ask me! (I blame my highly-specialized university program and my wretched high school curriculum.)

But I am thinking vague thoughts about extending this story, and I might just have to pick that up to do a little research! ;D

Thank you so much for the comment!

It's rare for such a short fic to make me lose myself completely in it. Is it OK to beg for more? *begs anyway*

I have vague thoughts of extending this story, as I don't think I really got the chance to tell all of it in the time constraints I had while writing this bit. But I'm not sure if I'll ever get back around to it.

All the same, I am thrilled to hear you lost yourself in it. The craft of the engaging short story is something I'm working on, and it just makes me giddy that you said that. Thank you so much! <3
