Okay, I often tend to be ~2 years behind on video games. My excuse is that I am too thrifty to shell out full price for most games, so I tend to wait until the price goes down or I happen to find it at a used games store, because I don't like spending more than $20-25 on a game.

I wasn't very dazzled by the visuals either.
That's probably why I won't end up playing it... I'd only get a PSP just for that game, and I wouldn't feel like it'd be worth it.

Squenix somehow got lost in the 'graphics are more important than plot' thinking. And it's getting worse. :-/
I sometimes wonder if releasing AC was such a good thing for FF7. Of course, all the rabbid longterm fans and especially the new fangirls brought in a lot of money for SE because the wanted/had to see this. But what good did it FF7 ( ... )

For a while I thought Squenix was sacrificing plot for graphics, but FFXII kind of reassured me that they do still know how to create complex and interesting stories. As did Crisis Core -- I mean, we already sort of know the story, but they still found a way to make it immersive and compelling. Rest assured, I don't think Squenix has lost their touch entirely.
That said, this move into "compilations" where they are producing multiple spin-offs for their more popular games rather than leaving them as one-shots does worry me a little. I do hope that with FFXIII they remember to focus on quality over quantity...
