Il Destino: Notes at the Master Post and with Part 1.

Part 2

He reached the restaurant at the same time as Chad, which calmed his nerves quite a bit. At least this way he didn’t have to spend time wondering if he was going to be stood up by his soulmate.

They went inside, were seated at a table, and began to talk. The conversation flowed easily, as the two of them made small talk, but they were interrupted with the arrival of their food. The plates were piled with steaming food that couldn’t possibly have smelled more delicious. After they had been eating in silence for a while, Jensen decided to break the ice.

“I guess you thought it was pretty strange, that I asked you out just like that.”

“Not really. It actually happens quite a lot.”

“Oh,” Jensen said. He wondered if that was how Chad viewed him; just another conquest to be had.

“But, I have to admit, I’ve never been on a date with anyone who looked as amazing as you, Jensen,” Chad said with a smile.

Jensen smiled back awkwardly, and the two went back to talking about Positano, and other random topics. The food was turning out to be the highlight of this evening, and Jensen didn’t quite know what to make of that.

Sitting outside on a bench, Jared watched Jensen and his date talking and laughing together. He turned to another young man who happened to be sitting next to him and asked, “Do you believe in Destiny?”

The other man only stared blankly at him, so Jared wracked his brain trying to come up with the words in Italian. "Tu credi nel destino?" he asked again.

The other man laughed shortly before replying, "Destino? Tutto il mondo crede al destino.” As if waiting for Jared to absorb that, the Italian man looked up at the sky. “It is written. On the stars,” he said in slow but clear English. “Capito?” he asked Jared, wanting to make sure he understood.

Jared nodded slowly, and the Italian man nodded approvingly before getting up. As he walked past Jared, he clapped him on the shoulder. Jared smiled, and then went back to watching Jensen and the other man have dinner.

The yacht party was turning into a disaster for all of them. Jensen had thought dinner had been awkward, but nothing compared to this, making small talk with Chad and finding out that they really had nothing in common.

“So what movies do you like?”

“Well, I loved The 40 Year Old Virgin. That was an awesome movie. And I love Van Damme movies. Nothing beats a slasher movie either. I have almost every slasher movie ever made. Those things are like works of art!”

“Huh. So you don’t like any movies based on books or indie films or anything like that?”

“Fuck no! That crap is boring.”

“Right.” Jensen was coming to the realization that the fake Chad Michael Murray had turned out to be the better date, and he just didn’t know what to do with that information. Jared was looking more and more like his real soulmate. Maybe he really was worth giving another chance.

“Steve,” Jeffrey whispered in his ear. “Aren’t you having fun? You’re here in Italy, on a yacht with me, and Jensen is finally with Chad Michael Murray. You should be happier.”

“I keep thinking about Chris,” Steve replied softly. “I really miss him despite everything that may have been going wrong in our relationship.”

“Forget about him, Steve. You can do better. Don’t you deserve to be with someone who loves you? Someone who values you and wants to make you happy? Don’t you deserve to be happy?”

“I was happy with him.”

“Yes you were. But you said you haven’t been happy in a very long time. Give me a chance, Steve, you can be happy with me. I know what real love can be like, and we could have that.”

Steve looked up at him, and Jeffrey leaned in slowly and kissed him. The kiss began to deepen before Steve jerked away from him.

“I can’t do this. I’m with Chris. I love him. Even if we have problems, I can’t cheat on him. Not like this. Not until I know where we really stand.”

He looked back at Jeffrey and saw how frustrated he looked. “I’m sorry,” Steve whispered. He slid away from Jeffrey and went to look for Jensen.

Jensen’s night just kept getting worse. He was pretty sure that Chad was well on his way to getting completely wasted, and he was now by himself staring out at the waves.

“Hey, Jensen!” Chad said, coming up to lean against the railing with him. “Are you having fun?”

“Not really,” he replied honestly.

“Awww. Are you bored? Because I know how to entertain you!” With that he grabbed Jensen’s ass with his left hand.

“Jesus!” Jensen yelped, stepping away from him. “Stop it!”

“Sorry,” Chad replied. “How about this?” he said, grabbing him with his other hand.

“I said stop it,” Jensen replied.

“You’re right, I’m sorry,” Chad said. “How about this instead?” This time he grabbed Jensen’s ass and his crotch.

Jensen shoved him off again, and yelled, “Get offa me!”

“Chill! I was just trying to have some fun, man!” Chad stopped when he felt someone tap him in the shoulder.

“Hey man,” he said, seeing Jared there.

“Hey,” he replied. And then he punched Chad in the face.

“Jared!” Jensen yelled. “What the hell are you doing?” But he was too late to stop him. The two men were fighting each other, arguing the entire time.

“What are you so mad about, man?”

“You know what I’m mad about! He said to stop, you idiot!”

“Well, I thought he might enjoy it!” Jensen looked over at Steve who had suddenly appeared next to him. They continued to watch the two men wrestle across the deck of the yacht, yelling at each other the entire time.

“It’s your fault anyway!” Chad yelled in frustration, getting a good swing at Jared’s jaw.

“How is it my fault!” he yelled in exasperation, tackling the other man again.

“You told me to take him out and show him a good time!”

“Show him a good time! Not molest him!”

“Oh grow up Jared!”

“Shut up Jason!” Jared said, before wincing, realizing that he really shouldn’t have said that.

“What?” Jensen said in horror. “Are you not Chad Michael Murray?”

“No, Jensen I’m not. My name is Jason Dohring. Look I’m sorry. You’re a really nice guy, but-” He stopped when Jensen turned to glare at Jared.

“Look, Jensen, I can explain.”

“Explain what? How you lied to me again? There is no way that you can explain your way out of this one. The funny thing is, I was beginning to think that you were a good guy, and that I should give you another chance. Good thing I didn’t end up making that mistake,” Jensen turned back to Steve and said, “Let’s go Steve. There’s nothing here for us anymore.”

“Jensen!” Jared yelled from behind them as they headed for the small boats that would take them back to the pier.

“Shut up! I hate you and I just can’t listen to you anymore!”

Jensen grabbed onto the railing as the other two men climbed down the ladder leading to the other boat. “Do you even realize how much planning this took? First I had to find a friend who was near enough that he could help me out, then there were the hotel reservations, and the shopping, and more planning than you could possibly know about, and I did it all for us! I love you, Jensen! I did it for us! Don’t you believe me?”

“No!” Jensen yelled in return as their boat began to head towards the mainland. “I don’t believe in fate or destiny or love or even men! Fuck you, Jared! I don’t believe in anything anymore!”

“You’re nuts about me! You’ll see. One day you’ll finally realize it.”

They had been packing their things in silence before Steve finally asked the question that had been running through his mind since they left the yacht. “You didn’t mean that did you? What you said back there about destiny and love. You didn’t mean it right?”

“I… I think I did. I don’t think I can believe in any of it anymore. I don’t know if I can believe in anything anymore.” Steve just gave him a hug, not commenting on his broken voice or the tears that matched it.

Jared was running late already, still hungover from drowning his sorrows in massive amounts of alcohol with Jeffrey and Jason after the disastrous yacht party. He stopped halfway to Jeffrey’s car and looked back up at the hotel where Jensen still was. Jared shook his head, turned and started to head back into the hotel.

“Hey!” Jason yelled from behind him as Jeffrey hit the horn. “Let’s get out of here, man. It’s over, and you’ve got a plane to catch.”

Jared sighed, got into the car, and said goodbye to his dreams and the only future he could imagine for himself.

Just as the car drove off, Steve dashed out the door and waved sadly. Despite everything that had happened, he really had wanted to say goodbye to both Jeffrey and Jared. He kept staring in the direction that the car had left in, not paying any attention to the car that was pulling up behind him, only turning when he heard someone call him.

“Steve!” He turned in surprise, finding Chris climbing out of the cab behind him.

“Chris! What are you doing here?”

“I came to find you! I miss you Steve, and I don’t know what I did to force you to come here, but I miss you, and I really want you to come home.”

Steve smiled and reached out towards him, pulling him into a hug. “I am coming home, Chris. Even Italy and Jensen’s crazy quest to find his soulmate couldn’t keep me from coming home. I love you Chris, and I’ve missed you too.”

“Are you sure you’re going to be okay? Everyone’s going nuts back home, Jensen. I got a phone call an hour before my flight saying you called off your wedding! Do you really want to back home to that?”

“I’ll be fine Chris. You two stay here and have a real vacation for a change. I just want to get the hell out of Italy. You called me a cab right?”

“Yeah it’s waiting for you outside already.”

“Then I’m ready,” Jensen said with a sad smile. He gave Chris and Steve a hug goodbye and headed out of the room, as the other two men followed him, doublechecking that he really did have everything with him.

It was still a good hour before boarding began for his flight, so Jensen continued to sit around waiting for his flight home. He was so bored that he was almost falling asleep, so much so that he nearly missed the announcement that came through the loudspeakers.

“Chad Michael Murray, there’s a message waiting for you at Gate 33.” Jensen’s head jerked up, thinking he must have misheard the message. When the message came through again, he grabbed his bags and ran towards gate 33.

“Chad Michael Murray, there is a message waiting for you at Gate 33.” Jared didn’t think twice, before running out of the line to board his flight home. After everything that had happened, he wasn’t going to miss this, no matter what happened.

“What do you mean he came all the way here for Chad Michael Murray? What’s this crap about him being his soulmate?”

“Jensen said he got his name from a ouija board when you were both kids, and also from-”

“The fortune teller? I paid her five bucks to tell him that!”

“You mean Chad Michael Murray doesn’t exist?”

“Of course he exists. He was a jackass from my Little League team. I was pushing the ouija board to get to the next question. I didn’t think Jensen had actually believed all of that!”

Steve stared at him in horror. “Chris, you’ve got to tell him.”

“No, no, no. He ran off to Italy and called off his wedding because of this. If I tell him, he’ll kill me. If he doesn’t know the truth, we’ll all be better off.”

Jensen and Jared reached Gate 33 at the exact same time, coming to a stop behind a man talking to someone at the counter. Jensen looked exasperated, until Jared shook his head in shock, silently letting him know that he hadn’t planned anything this time around.

“Shall we?” Jared asked, dropping his bags to the ground.

“Yeah,” Jensen said, dropping his bags as well. The two of them turned to the man in front of them and tapped him on his shoulders. When he turned around, Jared asked him, “Are you Chad Michael Murray?”

“Yes I am,” Chad replied slowly.

“Great! I’m Jared, and this is Jensen,” Jensen waved shyly. “See he’s been looking for you all over Italy because he believes that you’re his soulmate. Are you seeing anyone?”

“No, I’m single,” Chad said in confusion.

“See Jensen? He’s single. That’s just perfect for you. I guess I’m the only problem in all of this, because I’m in love with him. I love Jensen more than anything, more than he’ll ever really know. But you know what, Chad? You’re lucky. You got the right name. So I’m just going to go,” he turned to Jensen and smiled sadly as he picked up his bags. “I hope the two of you are really happy together.” With that he walked away, heading back towards his gate and the flight that was almost ready to leave.

“What was that all about?” Chad asked Jensen who was still watching Jared walk away from him.

“He loves me,” Jensen whispered.

“Well that’s obvious. I guess the only question is, do you love him?”

“What?”

“Do you love him?”

“I… I do, Chad,” he said softly. Then he looked up at Chad Michael Murray, the man he had traveled all the way to Italy to find, and realized that he really had found his soulmate after all. “I do love him.”

“Well then, I’m pretty sure you’ve got a plane to catch, and I know I’ve got a plane to catch, so I wish you luck.” Chad grabbed his things and was gone.

Jensen sprinted to Jared’s gate, narrowly knocking over a few little kids and many suitcases in his haste. He managed to explain everything to the flight attendants behind the counter, telling them that Jared, the man he loved, was on the plane. The response he got surprised even him.

“Il tuo amore? Sei sicuro che sia su quell’aereo?”

“Yes!!! Yes, I’m sure he’s on that plane!”

Jared didn’t know why the plane hadn’t left yet. Apparently some idiot hadn’t made it onto the plane in time, but Jared couldn’t care less. All he wanted was to leave Italy behind, and to stop wondering about what he could have had with Jensen. He heard the airplane doors close, and assumed the late passenger had finally made it onto the plane. He attempted to curl up in the seat as much as he could, intent on looking out of the window the entire flight so that he could avoid all of the other passengers. As long as he was left alone to wallow, nothing really mattered to him. So it was just his luck that someone sat down next to him.

He didn’t even bother looking over at him until he heard a voice quietly whisper, “Jared?” He looked up in shock and found himself staring into Jensen’s eyes. He looked nervous, biting his lip as if unsure of what to say. The grin that he felt spread across his face was only matched by the grin on Jensen’s. He leaned over, and after shoving the armrest out of the way, grabbed Jensen tightly. Holding him still felt just as right as it had the night they met, the night they had danced in the middle of the street on a warm, Italian night. And when they finally kissed, and the plane began to take off, he knew that he had been right all along. They really were soulmates despite the fact that his name wasn’t Chad Michael Murray.
