Writing Prompts: 5

Writing Prompt 5: Choose a poem you like. Take the last line and use it as the first line of your own poem.

I’m using the last line of the poem, Annabel Lee by Edgar Allen Poe. One of my favorites.

In her tomb by the sounding sea
She lay so still and patiently
Never losing hope of the possibility
That someone may come and find her melancholy

She waited for years; she waited for ages
People came, warlocks and sages
But she listened to none, feeling trapped by their cages
She had books and found solace only in their written pages

Until one day, a young boy came
With messy hair and caring not for fame
He befriended her gloriously and without shame
Their friendship was strong, like a burning flame

Many years they shared adventures
She even wrote stories and he sang ‘bout their ventures
They sat in cemeteries and avoided the trenchers
And later laughed about their misadventures

Years passed and she once again lay down by the sea
That boy was then filled with a strange melancholy
For she was dead and gone and empty
All that was left was the memories

He had come to love that girl sleeping by the sea
So he laid down beside her
And closing his eyes one final time,
He came to find,
He was filled with glee
Living eternally with his lady by the sea.
