When did our society become so freaking germophobic?

I've been (forced to be) watching children's channels the past few days because I've been around young ones... a LOT.  Today, I saw a commercial by Lysol decrying "Do you know how many germs are on your hand-cleanser pump handle?  MILLIONS!"

Um, no.  It's plastic.  They don't thrive well
