Yeah. A guy pinched me somewhere... inappropriate. [Gonna leave out Flynn's name because she doesn't want anyone coming after him when he was just cursed.]
[After the conversation she had with Zuko earlier, Mai didn't hang around her apartment for long because she was in a darker mood than usual, I know hard to believe but it's true! She knew that if she stuck around too long, than Ty Lee would show up, and that girl had a sixth sense for picking up when Mai didn't want to talk to anyone, and took it upon herself to help. And so, Mai got out of there fast.
Not having anywhere really to go, she ended up wandering, her head down and steps slowly taking her along as she kept thinking about stuff she didn't want to think about. She kept thinking of this City, the curses that she would have to eventually deal with; Being here with hardly anything familiar to her, and even the things that were familiar to her were different.
To say things were confusing for her would be a grave understatement, and the best way she knew of to deal with all that was going on was by not dealing with it. That method normally worked out for her, but lately... it hasn't been as reliable and she was struggling with
( ... )
[She grumbles a little, both at his greeting and also at his expressed hopes. Without looking at Iroh, she strolls over to a table back off in a corner and sits down.]
That depends. Has he done anything reckless and stupid in the last thirty minutes?
[Zuko has no idea Mai's lurking around inside the shop with Iroh. He's contenting himself with remaining near the pond, his legs crossed as he sits at the stone-rimmed edge. The little turtleduck casually swims around giving off the odd quack every now and then; it's finally getting use to all the attention that's come by in the past hour or so, not to mention it's gotten use to the lone human sitting there watching it.
There's nothing but a peaceful silence that hangs over the tea shop gardens.
Zuko's shoulders and posture are somewhat slumped, elbows on his knees. A handful of bread crumbs remain in the small bowl next to him in the grass. He's still wondering if had been such a good idea to trade in his bending for turtleducks, not sure how the next six weeks are going to play out.]
[Mai wasn't inside for long, not able to keep herself still for long with all Iroh's talking. She didn't know the older man that well, but she didn't have to spend much time with him to recognize that he was the type that endangered her aloof and silent attitude. Especially when he's going on about balance and feelings and spiritual stuff. So. She distances herself from him and goes outside.
She would just go around to check out the pond and see the turtleduck for a little while, then she would be on her way. It shouldn't be a problem since Iroh said Zuko was upstairs sleeping.]
...
[The sight of someone sitting near the pond made her pause, and since it was a back that she was very familiar with staring at, it did not take long for her to realize who it was. Sigh. Stupid old man.
But she didn't turn and run. Nope, she continues forward slowly until she's standing a foot behind Zuko's shoulder. Arms crossed and eyes focused on the turtleduck as she verbally announces her presence.]
[Not exactly expecting anyone else to show up and come by the pond to check things out, Mai announcing herself in that manner surprises Zuko and he straightens up instantly, twisting around to look up at her. Ugh. It's that stance...]
Mai--!
[Scowls now to cover up the small moment of being taken by surprise and looks back ahead at the pond, his posture stiff where he remains seated.]
[She raises an eyebrow at his reaction and waits a few moments before she speaks without even a hint of sincerity.]
Sorry. I wouldn't want to be rude.
[Her eyes return to the pond and she walks around him, putting several feet of distance between them as she approaches the water. She keeps her arms folded and watches the small animal swim about, not a care in the world.]

If he was cursed, he probably couldn't help himself.

He turns around when he hears the door open, wondering who would be stopping by at this time. He's surprised to see Mai.]
Mai! What an unexpected pleasure. I hope you are not here to fight with my nephew again.

I believe he's sleeping again.
[He heads out into the kitchen and comes back with tea service for two. He settles down across from her and pours.]
I hope you don't mind an old man keeping you company.

It's rude to sneak up on people like that.
