I've heard about the same thing from a friend who's a BNF in the Inception fandom (mostly for the wrong reasons, unfortunately). I hope this works out/you feel better soon.
For what it's worth, I added you because I genuinely enjoy your writing and you seem very interesting. (I suppose you can decide whether or not to believe that.)
Also, I had to urbandictionary BNF. Which I suppose means I am not destined to be one.
Oh, there's nothing to work out, and I don't feel bad. I've been out of fandom for six months, and I didn't really have any hurt feelings about it in the first place. I got off lighter than most of my friends in the wank department, let me tell you.
I've just been thinking about all this, and thought it might be entertaining/illuminating for people to read about what it's like to BNF.

Of course I believe you. =D I like to think that most people did. I met a lot of very cool people during my time in fandom.

I actually didn't know what it meant when I first joined the fandom, either!
This made me smile at times, and cringe at times. Mostly where I saw where I had been an annoying fan with some people. I for the most part think I get down the "everyone is a person, no reason to not treat them like a normal Joe!" but... I do suck at it at times.
The internet, and how much it multiplies drama is an interesting thing. Nothing in this should cause drama, but you are right that it might. I am happy at least that the divorce was not that painful for you.
Also happy fandom introduced me to your writing, because I am looking forward to reading Gilded Souls one day as well as other stuff from y'all.
And if nothing else, your twitter makes me giggle now and then :)
I think everybody's been a spazzy fan at somebody at SOME point in their lives. And "spazzy" is not "annoying!" It's a little disconcerting, sometimes, when a fan treats you like the second coming of Christ, because, you know, really, I'm just another fan, like you. Calm down, can I get you a cup of tea? XD But you sort of get over it. You mark the spazzy ones with "Handle With Care" stickers, and don't fret about it.

I think of the internet as a blender attacking two insoluble things. Whatever cheery, eclectic, diverse matter you put into the blender, afterwards it's going to spin off into two completely rarified and fundamentally irreconcilable points of view. It's why, as I've seen puella_nerdii put it, fandom comes to regard any particular BNF as "either they heal lepers, or they're fandom dementors." The internet purees the middle ground.
I'm not a BNF myself, I don't think. I have regular readers and a few friends I've gained from writing fic and doing what I do, but I still don't see my name on other sites so much. To be honest though, this post made me laugh a little, as well as cringe in places, because holy crap, I have had those crazy commenters before. I love them just as much as the others, but jeez... I'm not entirely sure I want to be a BNF. I just want people to be entertained by what I write.
Anyway, thanks for writing this, it made my evening a bit more fun~!
How To Become A BNF: Draw a lot of kinky porn and then spam the main comm with it. It works 8D
To throw in my personal observation, 'writer BNF's' are more likely to be targeted by haters and wank than fanartists. It's like people assume that you 'generate an opinion' with your writings and if that 'opinion' is not 'their's opinion' then they will do everything to make you suffer.
... I like the 'Tiny Celebrity' name, can I call myself a 'Tiny Celebrity'? 8D

Very very true. Those splatters can be interesting to watch from the outside, just god help you if you are inside of the blender. That would be messy.
...I may have to steal that metaphor, but I don't know where I shall steal it to. How violent a picture it is in my head at least makes it perfect.
