I'm consistently surprised by how lax most video game reviewers are in their criticism. It's a good thing we have
Zero Punctuation to even the scales. If you look at IGN or Playstation: The Official Magazine, you'll see the reviewers throwing around words like "exceptional," "groundbreaking," and yes, even "art," for damn near every big new release

since "fun" is a very subjective thing, and seeing how the other 3 items you have listed are more objective than just "fun"
also like, i believe the games should really think about it's target audience, along with game duration... also like, the session time periods.
for example, if you are like me, you wouldn't have the time or patience to play a RPG for longer than 15 min each session, this may take me longer to finish the game, but i wouldn't want to have to sit longer than 15 min each time. but if i can "fast forward" the game a bit, such as.. my 15 min is equivalent to a regular hour played, then i can go through games again! instead of getting bored.. haha
i haven't been gaming enough to really have a good input, but i think games should be better rated too, yes.

I didn't get into genres because I don't really like the way different types of games are so compartmentalized. Take RPGs for example: both consumers and game designers have such a clear impression of what an RPG should be that they shun a lot of innovation. Fortunately, that's not always the case. Fallout 3 was bold enough to try to be an RPG and a shooter in almost equal measure.
What did you mean about the ratings? Like Everyone and Teen and Mature? Do you think those ratings are too vague?
