Government shutdown

I know there are lots of folks severely affected by the U.S. government shutdown. I'm not one of them. A few days ago, I experienced my first direct encounter with the shutdown: I couldn't use www.time.gov to recalibrate my wristwatch. (It gains several seconds a month, and I like to keep it within 10 seconds of official NIST time.)

awesomeness for the anal retentiveness. i like accurate clocks but i've gotten lazy. my wristwatch was off 3 minutes this weekend. i usually just synch everything to my cellphone time now. i used to run around the house trying to synchronize all the digital clocks in the house when i was a kid. not easy.

the main thing affecting us is that the stream gauges are down, so during the heavy storms we were supposed to have we cant tell how much flooding there could be. they are "visually monitoring" them.

they also cant tell how much its affecting the economy because that dept is down.
