Alternative Wednesday!

Everyone loves a female vocalist. Okay *guys* all love a female vocalist. It's not due to the performer's appearance (at least to me it isn't), but rather to the delivery and that, in our heads at least, the song is being sung directly to us. It's one thing, as an example, for Robert Smith to sing a Love Song to me and quite another for Tori Read more... )

Another home run! The Sundays are always on any "infinite playlist" of mine, though I had never seen the "Wild Horses" vid. Harriet Wheeler...lovely voice, lovely face...LOVELY!

That voice plays me like a damn fiddle. I think I first heard their cover of Wild Horses on the Retroplex. God bless Steve Craig for exposing me to yet another great track.

...and again! I am now editing images in Photoshop and listening to Blind and falling in love with that voice all over...again. If I had nothing else to thank you for, it would be these weekly musical reawakenings.

I tip my Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA to you, sir!

Anything to make what is usually a "meh" day into something at least mildly interesting!

I would quibble with your claim that Mazzy Star has "a sound"--I thought the whole point of that band was to be as sound-less as possible?

Y'see, that's what the Smiths and the La's were there for.

In all seriousness though, you can tell Hope Sandoval has some pipes, I just don't think anyone has ever made her really use 'em.

I generally rate covers pretty poorly but when I thought about this one you are sooooo right! This is just great!

Man, tell me about it! One of the things I love about their cover of Wild Horses is that it sounds so very genuine. It's played completely straight and in such a way that it COULD be their song and Harriet's delivery, sweet without being syrupy, makes it.

Also worth nothing, purportedly the track was used in an episode of Buffy. Good call Joss!
