"It turned him on. And when Max was turned on, nothing short of impotence or premature ejaculation could discourage him."

funnily enough, this isn't anything particularly erotic. it's a book about a serial killer with multiple personality disorder who targets strawberry blondes. he's at that moment telling a story about Christopher, the more romantic personality, seducing a victim, and how the "main", aka Max, is turned on by the potential victim's fear while Christopher can't handle it.

In sixty-nine chapters, each brilliantly illustrated with photographs culled from Thomas Eisner's legendary collection, we meet a largely North American cast of arthropods -- as well as a few of their kin from Australia, Europe , and Asia -- and observe at firsthand the nature and extent of the defenses that lie at the root of their evolutionary success.

"Our Lewiston took his college entrance exams and was accepted at Harvard. (Sob. Sob. Sixteen seems so young to go to school so far from home.) Bob and I will drive him to Boston, as he is talking about taking his Russian icon collection with him. (You can't tell children anything!)"

It's a quote from a typically unbelievable family Christmas newsletter.

Book recently impulse buyed at a thrift shop accidentally found in San Jose, and left sitting on a shelf by the computer. I remembered reading my mother's copy years ago, when I was about 10, and my favourite sentence was always "The bathroom is your friend. It is there when you need it." I can't find it now; maybe it's actually from "If Life Is A Bowl Of Cherries, What Am I Doing In The Pits?" In any case, her observations about the declining number of people alive on Earth who know how to change a toilet paper roll are even truer today.
