At some point, Mac's phone rings.

(For the fifth time that night.)

But the DJ is loud, and the alcohol is flowing freely, and the call, once again, goes to voicemail.

Partway across the lobby, Mac and Beaver and stopped by Corny, who breaks away from a gossiping group of Neptune kids.

In his typical high-speed, enthused fashion, he spouts: "Did you hear? Veronica's dad caught the mayor! They're flying him out tonight on Woody's plane. That sleezoid's gonna fry!"

Corny then, tactfully as ever, buzzes loudly and mimes electrocution. His news spread, he heads back in towards the party without waiting for a response.

It's a good party, Logan knows as he surveys the crowd. Maybe not as good as alterna-prom was, but still, pretty good.

And alterna-prom's the reason he's going easy on the booze tonight. He's had a few beers, yeah, but he plans on staying far, far away from the champagne tonight, even though he doubts Veronica will even show up. Not after last time.

Still, if she does, Logan plans to not screw up again. At least, not in quite the same way.

Logan might just have his chance after all.

Mac's still not answering, but there's no way Veronica's just going to give up. They were going to the Grand, for the after-graduation party - that much she knows. Maybe they'll still be there. Maybe she can still stop him.

Elbows out, she pushes through the crowd until she spots Logan, and pulls him aside.

"Have you seen Beaver and Mac?" she asks, wasting no time.

He turns, faces her, puzzled at her urgency. What he thinks is: It's graduation! Loosen up, Veronica!

What he says is: "Yeah, they were here earlier...What's wrong?"

"I think Beaver --"

But Dick has just walked up, and he's waiting to hear what she has to say. She bites her lip.

Aaron steps into the elevator, looking ridiculously pleased with himself.

Just before the door closes Veronica slips through, her eyes down and intent on her phone. Finally, a response from Mac.

Meet me on the roof. Not exactly what she was expecting, but maybe that was the only safe place that she could think of, on short notice. Hopefully Mac's alright --

She glances up, her train of thought derailed.

No. Cancel that. When she notices who it is... well. That's not just derailing. That's lobbing a steel bar in front of the tracks and tying a screaming damsel to it.

That train is fucked.
