The thing about online news stories is that they, and their headlines, get updated as new information comes in. I'm not sure there's ever any definitive version anymore-I guess the print version is the version of record, but it seems as if the print versions nowadays are often written on the assumption that everyone's already read the basic story

Exactly. While revisionist history is hardly a new idea, the speed at which it can be accomplished these days is daunting.

Thanks for posting this piece on Watergate. I was fascinated with it as a child (although by 1974 I was more concerned with getting breasts). I can't say I ever understood it; maybe I still don't, but this is better.

Things strike me about differences. That the press would defy the President and report ugly bits. That Nixon's crimes (and their revelation) would be so egregious that the Republican party would oust its own president. I think of those times are being more innocent, but maybe that was just me.
