Here it is, the second day! Sorry for taking so long, been studying and sorting pictures ;)
Also, if you go back to the
first day entry, you'll find photos! (\^_^/)
9:30 - Very nice breakfast here! Rolls, croissants, cake, tea, different varieties of coffee, juice,... :)
11:45 - Leaving the hotel. Planned the day up to now and wasted quite a lot of time, doing it ;) Decided on Burano for today!
13:11 - Arrived at Fondamenta Nuove after a picturesque ride along the West and North of Venice.
13:15 - Looking for the right vaporetto stop for Burano, we must have looked a bit helpless. A nice ACTV staff member wanted to know where we want to go. Burano. "Mu or Bu?" That's what happens if two neighbour islands have similar names. ;)
13:35 - As there was quite a lot of time till our boat leaves, we walked around a bit and found a Coop. Siesta from 13:30-15:45. Bad timing...so we get another overly expensive drink. It's about 1.80 for a small bottle of water and 2.50 for the same amount of soft drink. When it's well over 30°C, this can be impoverishing!
14:00 - Met two women in their thirties. They thought we were 28! o.O Chatted a bit...they booked their flight on Thursday! How spontaneous is that?
14:33 - We're on the island of Burano now. Sooo nice and colourful! The water here is a bit smelly though. Betty bought a Gondoliere hat :D
14:55 - Bought postcards but again, no stamps. And the tobacco shop is closed on Sunday afternoons.
15:25 - Lovely islands and lovely inhabitants. Got some pastry from an elderly man, communicating in French - which neither he nor we could speak properly ;)
16:30 - Back on Lido, but a tad late for the planetarium demonstration, alas. The vaporetto took too long. Just found a coop close to the hotel :D Closed already though (seems we're not too lucky with supermarkets ^^").
17:00 - Going to the beach. It's still very warm but the sun isn't that strong any more.
20:30 - Venice in the evening is very nice. Sitting at the Piazza San Marco, listening to various bands playing in cafes. Lovely atmosphere here. Chatted a wee bit with a guy from New York.
20:45 - Started the Whaiwhai treasure hunt. Waiting for the text message reply. No reply yet.
20:50 - Bought some soft drinks at the same shop we got the Bellini. The guy offered us alcohol again (we left a mark, I guess) - and the Bellini is not 8€ instead of 7€!!!
21:47 - Discovered a shop with a sign saying "I open some time". Sold very weird stuff.
21:52 - Tired of walking around aimlessly. Still no reply....:( Going home now.
Canal in Cannaregio, near Fondamenta Nuove
Italian ice cream! Love it ♥ It melts too quickly in the heat...
Another canal :)
Burano - it's known for the colourful houses and for lace (the latter is sold everywhere but the shop staff threw us nasty looks already when we were just looking at the dresses so we didn't dare taking photos).
A small park and more colourful houses
Us again :P So you can see Betty's Gondoliere hat ;)
Main square of Burano. That tower is leaning to the back and the right. You find a lot of leaning towers everywhere around here so I wonder why the one in Pisa is so popular.. ^^"
Hard Rock Cafe of Venice and gondolas :) Sorry for the blurriness...didn't have anything to put my camera on (tripod, bridge,...)
Another blurry pic. This is the hotel's entrance! :D
Pink plush telephone. That shop had a few more funny items (like shiny pink high-heel phones...)
The Canal Grande. In the back you can see Santa Maria della Salute. :D
That shop was even weirder (a lot!) than the accessory one. Not quite sure if it was the mannequins or the clothes they sold. Half of them were naked and the rest wore rather dodgy stuff.
